Each year it seems the holiday season starts earlier and earlier. The Twelve Days of Christmas are supposed to begin at Christmas, but now Thanksgiving turkey leftovers haven’t even made it to the refrigerator before Christmas music can be heard in stores and on the radio.
And you know what that means, weeks of hearing “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas” and songs about sleigh bells and snow.
For south Louisiana residents, a snowy Christmas is just a dream. But a sweet one isn’t.
Melt-in-your-mouth divinity. Mile-high meringues. Luscious white chocolate cheesecake. Eggnog. Milk punch. Glazed cutout sugar cookies. Homemade marshmallows.
Home bakers stock up on confectioners’ sugar, sparkling white sugar, crunchy snowflake candy and white pearl decorations, coconut, cream cheese, whipping cream and sweetened condensed milk.
To help you create memories of a sugary white Christmas, The Advocate’s Food staff and columnists share some of their favorite holiday treats.
