Walk-On’s Bistreaux, SoBou in N.O. honored
A New Orleans bar and a Crescent City restaurant are topping “best of” lists this month.
Walk-On’s Bistreaux & Bar, 1009 Poydras St., New Orleans, was voted the Best Sports Bar in North America in a poll run by ESPN.
The nominee cited the atmosphere, location and personal beer taps as reasons it should take the crown, and the public agreed. Walk-On’s competition included Buffalo Blues in Pittsburgh; Hickory Tavern in Charlotte, N.C.; Pluckers Wing Bar in Austin, Texas; and Taco Mac of Atlanta.
Previous winners include Chickie’s & Pete’s in Philadelphia and Real Sports Bar & Grill in Toronto.
Also earning some bragging rights is SoBou, the south of Bourbon Street restaurant in the French Quarter.
Esquire Magazine’s food and travel correspondent John Mariani has included SoBou, 310 Chartres St., on his annual list of best new restaurants of the year in the United States.
“We are thrilled to receive this award and want to thank Esquire and Mr. Mariani for the honor,” said owner Ti Adelaide Martin.
The restaurant is part of the Commander’s Family of Restaurants. Executive chef is Juan Carlos Gonzalez and Tory McPhail, executive chef of Commander’s Palace, is SoBou’s consulting chef.
In other New Orleans restaurant news, Restaurant R’evolution, 777 Bienville St. in the Royal Sonesta Hotel in the French Quarter, is offering Sunday brunch.
The brunch will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Sunday and will feature such favorites as crawfish crepes; duck confit and eggs, grillades and gravy Spanish style, along with classic brunch cocktails such as brandy milk punch and Ramos gin fizz.
The restaurant also is offering an after-theater pairing of banana cream pie à la mode with the sparkling wine Franciacorta Contradi Gastaldi Satèn 2007 in the dining room from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. each Friday and Saturday for $18, excluding tax and gratuity.
Whiskey Blue New Orleans is sharing the recipe for the New Orleans Saints-inspired cocktail it has added to its menu. The hotel lounge at 333 Poydras in the Central Business District will be offering The Saint cocktail for $10 during the football season.
The drink reflects the local NFL team’s uniform colors, and customers can ask that the glass be rimmed with edible gold stars, a spokeswoman said.
