Gourmet Galley: Stuffed Pizza

This is another sandwich that all ages like to cut into. Two loaves of frozen bread dough are thawed, layered with Italian sausage, cheese, mushrooms, onions and garlic, and baked. This is not only good, but it fills your kitchen with the wonderful aroma of homemade bread that you didn’t have to make from scratch.

Rolling or stretching the thawed dough takes a little patience, but it’s forgiving. If you roll it or stretch out and let it rest a few seconds and then roll or stretch it again, it can easily be formed to a 10x12-inch rectangle. You will use two (1-pound) loaves of dough. The packages I saw had three loaves, so use that extra frozen dough for a separate loaf of bread or keep it frozen and use it later.

There are some very good varieties of Italian sausages in our markets.

Once you cover and seal the top and bottom doughs together; you can decorate the top as I did with a small piece of rolled-out dough or just leave it plain.
