Chefs Awards Dinner slated Aug. 20 in N.O.

Louisiana Cookin’ Magazine’s 11th Annual Chefs to Watch Awards Dinner will be Aug. 20 at Harrah’s New Orleans.

Among the chefs to be honored is Ryan Andre of Le Creolé on Highland Road. He is joined by Manny Augello, Jolie’s Louisiana Bistro, Lafayette; Lindsay Mason, Cristiano Ristorante, Houma; Brad McGehee, Ye Olde College Inn, New Orleans; and Zac Watters of Zachary’s Restaurant in Mandeville.

Five Louisiana community leaders will also be recognized at the dinner for their contributions “to the betterment of communities where they have a business presence.”

The menu includes passed hors d’oeuvres of fried hog’s head cheese with black-eyed pea and sweet potato vinegar caviar, watermelon with cherry tomato filet and Meyer lemon vinaigrette, and roasted Gulf oyster crostini with brûléed parmesan and applewood bacon; a first course of shrimp and andouille beignets with Louisiana crawfish corn maque choux; a soup course of smoked tomato soup with white wine crab and crè me fraî che; a salad course of goat cheese and blueberry salad; an entree of Zapp’s-crusted cobia with a garden vegetable hash and smoked tomato butter sauce; and a bacon-and-waffle dessert.

The dinner has raised more than $100,000 for Café Reconcile, a nonprofit organization that trains at-risk youth in the culinary arts. Tickets are $125 and are available at https://secure.louisianacookin.com.

Kay Ewing schedules fall cooking classes

Registration for Kay Ewing’s Everyday Gourmet fall cooking classes on Italian cuisine and foods for gift-giving will begin at 10 a.m. Friday for weekday classes and at 10 a.m. Saturday for classes held on Saturdays.

Classes are held at The Royal Standard, 16016 Perkins Road. Cost for each class is $50.

to host wine dinners

Galatoire’s, 209 Bourbon St., has scheduled two upcoming wine dinners. A dinner featuring the wines of Swanson Vineyards is set for Aug. 29 and another featuring the wines of Scott Paul Winery will be held Sept. 26.
