Some dishes might not scream slow cooker, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be done in the appliance.

Take French toast, for example. One of the old-time breakfast favorites can be slow cooked.

Certainly, the stove top is quicker, but what the slow cooker allows is convenience and the ability to keep the dish warm as family or guests filter in for breakfast. I also find the slow cooker makes the food more moist and the flavors richer. Grease the slow cooker insert to minimize sticking.

Apple French Toast is perfect for those who don’t like to eat first thing in the morning or as a weekend brunch offering. Have extra fruit nearby or a selection of syrups for topping choices.

Two hours on High should just about do it, so cooks might have to get up a little earlier than normal to get things started. In the case of a brunch, simply leave plugged in so the bread stays warm and keep a spatula nearby for easy removal.
