Chili cook-off set March 28-29 at LSU

Louisiana’s State & Regional Chili Cook-Off will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. March 28-29 at LSU’s Parker Coliseum. The event is in conjunction with the LSU Spring Garden Show and Sale and a classic car show.

Sponsored by Catholic Radio 1380-AM and the Knights of Columbus, proceeds from the cook-off will benefit Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital. Teams will compete in categories, including Red Chili, Chili Verde and Salsa. Winners will advance to the world competition.

The chili will be judged by a panel of local celebrities. Visitors will also have an opportunity to taste the chili and vote for their favorite to win a People’s Choice Award.

Cooking in Central fundraiser planned

The city of Central will host the Cooking in Central fundraiser on March 23-24 at the Village at Magnolia Square.

The event, which in past years has raised more than $1 million, will benefit the Disabled Veterans Fund, the Central Community Assistance Foundation, and Central schools. Events set for March 23 include a crawfish boil starting at 5 p.m., a performance by the Navy Brass Band from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., a dance with the Carbon Copy Band from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and two progressive auctions.

March 24 events run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and include a dedication of a permanent flagpole to all veterans; live entertainment; cook-offs for jambalaya, fried turkey, couchon de lait, pork roast, brisket and barbecued chicken; auctions and a $10,000 raffle.

Sharp Cook sets tamale cooking class

Dana DeLatte, of Sharp Cook, will teach a class called “Tamale Rolling Party!” at 11 a.m. Saturday at 10889 Perkins Road, second floor, Suite D, which is above Sweet Wishes Cupcake Shoppe.
