Sep 12, 2014 18:50 Theologian to speak on role of activism Theologian to speak on role of activism Advocate staff report Sept. 12, 2014 Comments Author Matthew Fox, a spiritual theologian and Episcopal priest, will speak Aug. 22 and 23 at the Unitarian Church of Baton Rouge, 8470 Goodwood Blvd. Fox, who has authored more than 30 books, will speak from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22, on exploring spirituality that integrates contemplation with social justice, and blends spiritual practices from various traditions with inter-generational wisdom. Drawing on his recent book “Occupy Spirituality,” coauthored with Adam Bucko, Fox will describe activism as a form of contemplation, and vocation as a deep spiritual practice. On Saturday, Aug. 23, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Fox will lead a workshop based on his new book, “Meister Eckhart: A Mystic Warrior for Our Times.” The modern age has developed knowledge, Fox says, but at the expense of wisdom. Cost of the weekend seminar is $60. Register at theredshoes.org or call (225) 338-1170. The Red Shoes and the Unitarian Church are sponsors of the event.
