The Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre will conduct open auditions for advanced dancers for its 2013-14 season Sept. 28, as well as children’s auditions for The Nutcracker—A Tale from the Bayou on Sept. 29 at Dancers’ Workshop, 10745 Linkwood Court.
The Nutcracker—A Tale from the Bayou incorporates local landmarks and features world-class guest artists, the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra and more than 300 area children. Productions are set for 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Dec. 21-22 at the Baton Rouge River Center Theatre for the Performing Arts, 275 St. Louis St.
“This Nutcracker is a great opportunity to celebrate both Louisiana and the holiday season, and it is special because area youth can experience theater and dance on a grand scale with professional artists and staff,” said Sharon Mathews, the company’s co-artistic director.
Season auditions are set for 10:30 a.m. Sept. 28. This audition is for classically trained advanced level dancers who have been on pointe for at least two years. These advanced dancers will perform in The Nutcracker, Snow White and other performances.
Auditions for Party Parents are set for 1 p.m. Sept. 28. Auditions for children ages 8 to 12 for The Nutcracker—A Tale from the Bayou will be Sept. 29. Children must be 8 years old by Dec. 31. Audition times are as follows:
■ Noon-12:45 p.m., boys ages 8 and older.
■ 1 p.m.-1:45 p.m., girls age 8.
■ 2:15 p.m.-3 p.m., girls age 9.
■ 3:30 p.m.-4:15 p.m., girls age 10.
■ 4:45 p.m.-5:30 p.m., girls age 11-12.
More than 300 children will be selected to fill the roles of lambs, cherubs, mice, cooks, soldiers, angels and party children.
