The Center for Musical Arts, 5545 Superior Drive, will celebrate its grand opening with an open house from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
The event will include refreshments, class demonstrations, a meet and greet with the faculty and a tour of the facility.
This will also be an opportunity for students, adults and children to learn more about the private and group lessons offered by the school. On Aug. 12, the center will begin a full schedule of private and group piano classes for children and adults.
The center was founded by three of Baton Rouge’s certified private teachers, Patti Misita, Megan Reilly Shannon and Laura Misita Pray. They have more than 50 years of combined teaching experience.
“We saw a need for an environment where students could move beyond the weekly private lesson to collaborate with other students and expand their traditional repertoire to include other styles such as pop, blues and jazz,” Misita said. “Our discussions with students and adults told us that they wanted a more flexible and engaging offering for music education, and a curriculum that focused on acquiring the fundamental skills needed to enjoy a lifetime of music making.”
The school’s newly renovated building is equipped with Yamaha grand and hybrid pianos, as well as a state-of-the-art keyboard lab provided by O’Neill’s Music House.
