World-renowned violinist Matteo Fedeli, known as “L’uomo degli Stradivari” or “Man of the Stradivarius” in his native Italy, will perform a classical concert on a Stradivarius violin at 7 p.m. Friday, June 21, at the Civic Theatre, 510 O’Keefe St., New Orleans.
This concert will feature unparalleled sound of a “Grand Stradivarius” violin, one of only five known to exist today, and is presented by the American Italian Cultural Center of New Orleans. A reception will follow at the center and museum, 537 S. Peters St., New Orleans.
Fedeli has performed in the most prestigious Italian concert halls, among them La Scala in Milan and La Fenice in Venice, as well as Italy’s most exquisite churches and basilicas. He has performed for Pope Benedict XVI and also has been a featured guest on several notable programs for Italian television.
Fedeli created the project “A Stradivarius for the People,” which aims to share these extremely rare and special instruments with the world. New Orleans is the southernmost stop in the project’s historic 12-city North American tour.
The concert event will feature a diverse, captivating musical program chosen by Fedeli to showcase the Stradivarius’ unique timbre and acoustical versatility. The Maestro will share his insights about the program and the history of this precious violin throughout the evening’s repertoire.
