‘Homes, Cocktails’ will benefit FHL

“Classic Homes and Cocktails,” a benefit soiree brought to the community by the Foundation for Historical Louisiana, will showcase downtown residences, putting a spotlight on preservation in recent years by local homeowners, preservationists and economic developers.

The tour will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, and will feature four homes and two condominiums in the heart of downtown and Spanish Town Historic District, beginning on the terrace of the Kress Building on Third Street with drinks and heavy hors d’oeuvres.

One site will be a work in progress and was one of the houses formerly called a “mud hut” several years ago by Andreas Duany, a new urbanist on a visit to Baton Rouge.

For an added fun twist, participants are asked to wear their tackiest Christmas sweaters for a chance to win a free night at the Hotel Indigo. FHL board member and Hotel Indigo General Manager Francis Grayson is serving as chairman of the event.

Proceeds will benefit the FHL, a non-profit, Baton Rouge-based organization dedicated to preserving Louisiana’s culture, history, and architecture.

Each home will be paired with a classic cocktail and refreshment.

Advance tickets are $30 for foundation members and $35 for nonmembers. Tickets are $40 the night of the event.

The foundation also is offering sponsorships at $250 and $500 with four and 10 complimentary tickets respectively by emailing info@fhl.org.
