“This year, we’re giving a portion of the proceeds back to the artists. ” JASON ANDREASEN, director of Baton Rouge Gallery
The virtual catalog is up and running, so you can choose early.
Which is good, because you want to be prepared when walking into Baton Rouge Gallery on Friday, Nov. 9.
That’s when the gallery will host KINETICS, its live art auction fundraiser. There’ll be plenty of food and live music, but the artwork is always the star of the show.
Artwork donated by the gallery’s artist members at that.
“And this year, we’re raffling a 2006 painting called ‘Portage #2’ by James Burke,” Jason Andreasen said. “He is the only surviving founding member of the gallery, and we’re excited to have this piece for the raffle.”
Andreasen is the gallery’s director, and KINETICS is the gallery’s only fundraiser.
“This year, we’re giving a portion of the proceeds back to the artists,” Andreasen said. “That’s a change for us. They are our artist members, and this is something we can do for them. The rest will benefit the gallery and its programs.”
As for the Burke piece, 500 raffle tickets are being sold for $10 apiece, and tickets can be purchased ahead of time at the gallery.
This year’s, KINETICS will host special guest auctioneers Jared Loftus of College District and Casey Phillips of the BR Walls Project/The Force Agency.
“Forbes magazine has named Jared ‘College Football’s Biggest Entrepreneur,’” Andreasen said. “That’s impressive in itself.”
Meanwhile, music will be provided by the jazz/funk band Hazy Ray, and refreshments will be served throughout the evening.
But again, artwork is the biggest star of this show, more than 30 original pieces, all with an opening bid at $100. You can find them i the gallery’s digital catalog on its website, http://www.batonrougegallery.org.
Artists whose work will be up for bid are Charles Barbier, Judi Betts, Anne Boudreau, Samuel J. Corso, Paul Dean, Mary Claire Delony, David DuBose, Paulo Dufour, Mary Lee Eggart, Preston Gilchrist, Rosemary Goodell, Frankie Gould, April Hammock, Diane Hanson, Randell Henry, Theresa Herrera, Linda Jeffers, Kelli Scott Kelley, Eleanor Owen Kerr, Phyllis Lear, Kathleen Lemoine, Matt Morris, Jacqueline Dee Parker, Tom Richard, Katherine Scherer, Steve Schmidt, Van Wade-Day, Michaelene Walsh and Reni Zietz.
Oh, and don’t forget the silent auction. Each year, KINETICS boasts a diverse and expansive silent auction prior to the live auction, this year’s featuring nearly 40 different items up for bid, including travel accommodations, portrait sittings with BRG artists, jewelry, tickets to some of the area’s best upcoming live performances, art-related gifts and home accents.
