BR Symphony outlines schedule for 2012-2013 season

For the 64th year, the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra will present a season of classical music to be performed in the Capital City.

The 2012-2013 Masterworks season will consist of seven concerts at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday nights at the Baton Rouge River Center Theatre for the Performing Arts, 275 St. Louis St.

“We, as listeners and performers of symphonic music, are blessed with an extraordinary wealth of great music, and each season we put together a mix of the old favorites and a few works from off the beaten path,” said Timothy Muffitt, musical director. “I think you will love what is in store.”

Muffitt added, “It is such a pleasure and privilege for me to share the stage with these great musicians … a source of great pride for our city.”

Orchestra auditions will take place Friday and Saturday, Aug. 24-25, at the LSU School of Music, Dalrymple Drive on campus. Times will be assigned upon receipt of completed application, which can be found by visiting http://www.brso.org.

Open positions are Violin I: section, two chairs; Violin II: assistant principal, section, seven chairs; Viola: principal, assistant principal, section, one chair; Cello: principal, section, one chair; Flute III / Piccolo; Oboe II, one year appointment; Bassoon: III / Contra; Assistant Horn; Principal Piano; and Principal Harp, one year appointment. Auditions for substitutes will be heard in all sections.

Auditions also are ongoing for the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra Chorus through Friday, Aug. 31, at Broadmoor United Methodist Church, 10230 Mollylea Drive. Auditions are by appointment only.

The Chorus will perform four concerts under the direction of Chorus Master David Shaler.

Rehearsals take place on Monday nights from Sept. 10 through Nov. 26 and Jan. 7 through Feb. 18, 2013.
