Baton Rouge Gallery, 1515 Dalrymple Drive, continues its silent film series, Movies & Music on the Lawn, at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, on the lawn behind the gallery.
This is the fourth of six in the 2012 season, “Black and White to the Future” and pairs Harry Houdini in The Man From Beyond with a never-before-heard score from the local experimental musicians of The (New) Zeelanders. Walls Project events
The Baton Rouge Walls Project is sponsoring Baton Rouge Gallery’s presentation of The Man from Beyond in the gallery’s Movies & Music on the Lawn series on Saturday, Aug. 25. Also, Casey Phillips, co-curator of the project, will be a speaker at the 2012 Louisiana Smart Growth Summit Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 27-29, in the Manship Theatre in the Shaw Center for the Arts, 100 Lafayette St. And there will be an opening reception 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, at the Kress Gallery, featuring an exhibit of work by three of the BR Walls Projects’ featured muralists, John Wax, Katie Knoeringer and Michael Secor. Open house set
The LSU Performing Arts Academy will open its doors for the program’s second annual Open House, noon-5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, in the Music & Dramatic Arts Building, Dalrymple Drive on campus. The event is free and open to the public, rain or shine, and will feature performances by academy teachers, informational “meet-and-greet” sessions, open workshops and demonstration classes, guided tours and an “instrument petting zoo.” The academy provides high quality arts education to individuals from all walks of life and connects the local community with the resources and personnel of the LSU College of Music & Dramatic Arts. The Louisiana Art and Artists’ Guild, 2490 Silverest Ave., has scheduled several events in coming weeks:
- The deadline is Monday, Sept. 17, for entries to the 43rd annual River Road Show, which is set for Dec. 3-Jan. 30, 2013, in the Louisiana State Archives Gallery, 3851 Essen Lane. Sam Corso will be the juror.
- The reception for the annual Summer Judged Show will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, in the Independence Park Theatre Gallery, 7800 Independence Blvd.
The exhibit will run through Oct. 18.
- Artwork by guild members is exhibited monthly at the Red Stick Spice Company, 7970 Jefferson Highway.

Chorus auditions set

Class scheduled
The Louisiana Center for Theatrical Arts will conduct a class beginning Monday, Sept. 10, for students ages 9-16 for its production of Snoopy, The Musical, at St. Michael Episcopal Church, 449 Sharp Road, Mandeville. A painting by Baton Rouge artist Elayne Kuehler will be included in The Richard Schmid Fine Art Auction on Sunday, Sept. 2, benefitting the Rist Canyon Volunteer Fire Department in Bellvue, Colo. Proceeds from all work sold in the auction will go to the fire department.

Kelley in New Orleans
Works by Baton Rouge artist and LSU Professor of Painting Kelli Scott Kelley will be featured in the exhibit Kelli Scott Kelley: Tale of the Swamp Monster.
