St. Francisville group will stage the Wilder farce Matchmaker

St. Francisville Transitory Theatre will stage the Thornton Wilder farce Matchmaker, beginning with a preview performance on Wednesday, July 11.

From the little country town of Yonkers to New York City, the comic play follows Horace Vandergelder, the merchant of Yonkers, as he hires Dolly Levi, the matchmaker, to help find a husband for his daughter. When Levi leads them and two of Vandergelder’s clerks to the best restaurant in the city, they run into a host of hilarious complications. And it’s all in the name of love.

Wilder’s play originally premiered on Broadway in 1955. The play is set in the American 1890s.

The troupe moves to another venue, Hemingbough, for the production, which runs about two hours.

No weekend performances are scheduled.
