Swine Palace’s new Summer Festival will offer The Shrew

Swine Palace will begin its inaugural Summer Festival with William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, which opens Tuesday, June 26, and runs through Sunday, July 1, in the Studio Theatre in the LSU Music and Dramatic Arts Building, Dalrymple Drive on campus. The show is directed by Swine Palace Artistic Director George Judy and is billed as “a rockin’, 70-minute, family-friendly version of Shakespeare’s timeless battle of the sexes.” The Sunday matinee is at 2 p.m. All other performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased only at the door.

The LSU Museum of Art in the Shaw Center for the Arts, 100 Lafayette St., will host the program Museum After Dark: Louisiana Culinary Institute Cooking Demonstration at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 21. The program is inspired by the museum’s current exhibit, Tale of Two Cities, and pairs the Louisiana Culinary Institute with a cooking demonstration of French and American cuisine.

Camp Dolly set

In West Baton Rouge

The West Baton Rouge Museum, 845 N. Jefferson Ave., Port Allen, will host a display to celebrate the Centennial Anniversary of the Girl Scouts organization. The display will be featured at the museum from Aug. 4 to Oct. 5. The museum is looking for information, stories, images and/or objects that you can share. The museum welcomes both donations and loans of artifacts for exhibits such as this one and is particularly interested in learning more about early Girl Scout activities in and around the Greater Baton Rouge region. At Southeastern

The exhibit, River and Bloom, an exhibition of paintings and drawings by New Orleans artist Allison Stewart will be on exhibit through Thursday, June 28, at Southeastern Louisiana University’s Contemporary Art Gallery in East Stadium on campus in Hammond. The show is Stewart’s collection of works addressing the changes that have occurred in recent years as a result of Hurricane Katrina and the BP oil spill. At the Hilliard

The exhibit Finding Egypt in Louisiana: The Ambassador Jefferson Caffery Collection will run through Dec. 31 at the Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum, 517 St. Mary Blvd., Lafayette. Jefferson Caffery was a member of the first graduating class of the Southwestern Louisiana Industrial Institute and was the US Ambassador to Egypt from 1949 to 1955, where he collected a variety of ancient artifacts.

The exhibit featured more than 40 artifacts.

Gulf Brew tickets

Tickets are on sale for Gulf Brew 2012, set for 6-9 p.m. Saturday, July 21, in Parc International in downtown Lafayette. The event will feature nearly 100 specialty and home-brew beers from throughout the southwest region, food and musical entertainment.

June kicks off the Ogden Museum of Southern Art’s online auction, featuring an original work by William Dunlap, “Fish, Flora, Fauna,”a pulp paper painting with hand coloring, valued at $10,000.

The starting bid is $1,000 with bidding increments of $100.
