  • Noon-2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, Mrs. Dorothy and Her Traveling Shaky Egg Band.
  • 11 a.m. Saturdays, Miss Trudy’s Traveling Trunk Show, Adelie Brent Auditorium.
  • 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, Louisiana Art & Science Museum annual meeting.
  • Through March 25, the exhibit David Hockney: Six Fairy Tales.
  • Through March 25, the exhibit Robert Warrens: Fiction & Fantasy.
  • Through March 25, the exhibit John Clemmer: New and Selected Works.
  • Through May 6, the exhibit A Child Likes: Prints by Adalié Brent from the LASM Collection.

Paintings and Tablescapes

Tickets are on sale for The Fine Art of Dining from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, and from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, at the Baton Rouge Garden Center in Independence Park, 7950 Independence Blvd. The event features paintings and tablescapes by members of the Louisiana Art and Artists’ Guild and the Baton Rouge Garden Club. Refreshments will be served. The event benefits a scholarship program for students majoring in landscape architecture, urban forestry or horticulture. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door. Baton Rouge Gallery, 1515 Dalrymple Drive, is showing artist member exhibits Deep Space by Charles Barbier, Spectra-Sonic by Paul Dean, Occupants by John Harlan Norris and Jokes and Bombs by Tom Richard through Thursday, Feb. 23. At LSU Union

The 2012 LSU Student Art Show Competition and Exhibit will open Friday, Feb. 17, and will run through March 11 in the LSU Student Union Art Gallery, Raphael Semmes Drive, on campus. Also, the pre-juried show is running through Wednesday, Feb. 8. During the pre-juried show, the public is encouraged to visit the gallery to vote on its favorite student submission. In West Baton Rouge

The West Baton Rouge Museum, 845 N. Jefferson Ave., Port Allen, is showing the exhibit The Ladies of Lincoln’s Era through March 4, and Life and Landscapes along Louisiana Highway #1 through March 11.

The program The Resurrection of the General Harriet Tubman will be performed at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, by nationally acclaimed actress, playwright and storyteller Melissa Waddy Thibodeaux, and art historian Pat Bacot will give a lunchtime lecture on “Furnishing Louisiana: Creole and Acadian Furniture at noon Wednesday, Feb. 16. Jazz premiere

Tickets are on sale for a two-night world premiere of jazz musician and composer Rufus Reid’s “Quiet Pride” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 28-29, at the Manship Theatre in the Shaw Center for the Arts, 100 Lafayette St. The concerts will feature Brian Shaw, LSU assistant professor of trumpet and jazz studies, along with the LSU Jazz Ensemble. “Quiet Pride” is a four-movement work inspired by four sculptures created by American artist Elizabeth Catlett. The concerts will coincide the exhibit of Catlett’s work, Faces of Pride, at the LSU Museum of Art in the Shaw Center, which will run through Aug. 26. At the Burden Center

Several events are happening at the Burden Center, 5460 Essen Lane:

  • The Burden Center offers urban hiking, which includes two miles of hiking and walking trails. The Burden Woods open at 8:30 a.m. daily.
  • The Burden Center’s Camellia Gardens are blooming, featuring hundreds of varieties.

Zimmerman to perform

Satirical songwriter Roy Zimmerman will bring his show, Live From the Starving Ear, to the Unitarian Church, 8470 Goodwood Blvd., at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10. Live From the Starving Ear is 90 minutes of Zimmerman’s commentary on the struggle for peace and social justice through satirical songs. His songs have been heard on HBO and Showtime, he was profiled on NPR’s All Things Considered, and is a featured blogger for the Huffington Post. Admission is $15 at the door. February social

Composition performed

LSU alumnus Ronaldo Cadeu’s composition Crime and Punishment: One Act Ballet, was performed by the LSU Symphony Orchestra on Jan. 26 at Episcopal High School. The Brazilian composer and performer earned his doctorate’s degree from LSU in 2010. He then returned to Brazil, where he is teaching music and composing at Ouro Preto Federal University and Minas Gerais State University. He is a classical guitarist by training and has started his own string orchestra, Sinfonietta Belo Horisonte.

Felder honored

The Arts Council of Livingston Parish has named Mary Felder as its Artist of the Year. Felder is a fiber artist. She’s won numerous awards, and her work has been accepted into juried exhibitions. Felder belongs to several quilt and fiber art organizations. She lectures and conducts workshops for the Livingston Parish Libraries, the Arts Council of Livingston Parish and for local traditional and contemporary quilt and fiber arts groups. Broussard’s work chosen

Three photographs by Lafayette photographer Ed Broussard, owner of Ed Broussard Photography, were accepted into the Master Collection of Professional Photographers of America’s 2011 International Competition. Broussard’s work was on display Jan. 15-17 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.
