Arts Market returns Saturday

The Baton Rouge Arts Market returns from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 4, at 5th and Main streets. The market features more than 60 artists from Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas and Florida.

There will also be a Kids Booth from 9 a.m. to noon. The Arts Market takes place in conjunction with the weekly Red Stick Farmers Market and the Main Street Market. All markets will move to the Galvez Parking Garage, 500 Main St., in inclement weather. For more information, call (225) 344-8558.

Building Blocks program

American Institute of Architects Baton Rouge and CSRS Architects and Engineers will host “Building Blocks: If Kids Ruled the City” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Louisiana State Museum’s Capitol Park Museum, 660 N. 4th St. The program is an interactive experience, where kids ages 7-11, their parents and siblings, aided by architects and construction professionals, get to build a small scale version of their ideal city.

Student artwork honored

The George Rodrigue Foundation will award $45,000 in college scholarships and prizes to 15 high school junior and senior finalists at the foundation’s 2012 Art Contest Scholarship and Awards Luncheon at noon Saturday, Feb. 4, in the Celestin Ballroom in the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 601 Loyola Ave., New Orleans.

Turner paints live

Visual artist and performance painter Christopher Turner created a piece during a live painting session on Jan. 25 at MSN’s Appetite for Life with Andrew Zimmern taping at North Boulevard Town Square. Turner’s performance was filmed and will be featured on Zimmern’s Web program. A food truck “wround-up” also took place in conjunction with the show, with each truck donating 10 percent of gross sales to the Capital Area United Way. Turner’s painting also was auctioned to benefit the United Way.

Photography workshop

Registration is open for a photography workshop by David Humphreys sponsored by the Burden Horticulture Society on April 12 and April 14 at the Burden Center, 5460 Essen Lane. The workshop will cover new photographic techniques, software and archiving. The fee is $150 with proceeds benefitting the Burden Horticulture Society. Call for artists

The Tom Peyton Memorial Arts Festival is accepting entries from artists age 18 and older from Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi and Arkansas to participate in its 46th juried competition. Serving as juror of the 2012 show will be Baton Rouge artist Judi Betts. The show will open on Friday. A $1,000 award for best in show will be presented, along with 10 merit awards of $300 each. Prints in Thibodaux

An exhibit titled East/West: Contemporary American Prints is on display in the Ameen Art Gallery in Talbot Hall at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux through Friday, Feb. 3. The show highlights trends and innovations in early 21st century printmaking. Co-curators Ross Jahnke of Nicholls and Brian Kelly of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette called for contributions from printmakers in every state of the union.
