8 Fluid Ounces: National Juried/Invitational Ceramic Cup Exhibition will open Wednesday, Jan. 25, in the LSU School of Art’s Alfred C. Glassell Jr. Gallery in the Shaw Center for the Arts, 100 Lafayette St. There will be a gallery talk at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, followed by an opening reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The show will run through Feb. 25. Olivier to speak
Creative Louisiana’s monthly meeting will feature Scott Olivier at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, in the Manship Theatre in the Shaw Center for the Arts, 100 Lafayette St. Olivier is a multi-instrumentalist and pioneer of digital audio technology who has worked with such recording artists as Michael Jackson, Van Halen, No Doubt, Chris Cornell, The Offspring and Evanescence. Mignon Faget to speak

Nominations sought
Since 2005, the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra has annually honored an outstanding Baton Rouge area kindergarten through 12th grade music specialist/teacher. These awards recognize music specialists who excel in teaching music and successfully integrating music with the core academic curriculum either alone or in collaboration with a general classroom teacher. Nominations can be made by a principal, supervisor, PTA member, fellow teacher, friend, parent or student. McCleery selected
Alex McCleery, student and dancer for the Cangelosi Dance Project under mentor and teacher Kris Cangelosi, has been accepted to Ballet Chicago’s 2012 summer course, advanced intensive and 2012-2013 full year program. Students who are accepted to the year-round program will be evaluated for the Ballet Chicago Studio Company. The advanced intensive will be held from July 30 through Aug. 10. In addition, McCleery has been awarded a 100 percent Dowd Merit Scholarship for Ballet Chicago’s 2011 summer course and advanced intensive tuition. McCleery is a 2009 graduate of Catholic High School and attends Baton Rouge Community College. He has received several awards and titles for his talent in the past two years.

The deadline is Wednesday, Feb. 1, for submitting entries to the 2012 Hammond Digital Art Exhibit, which runs from March 5 through April 1.
