Gonzales to host Awesome Arts festival

The River Region Art Association’s Awesome Arts on the Bayou Festival is set for 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 13-14, along Bayou Francois at Jambalaya Park, 1015 E. Cornerview St., in Gonzales.

Admission is free.

“Nestled between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, Gonzales is a culturally rich, family-friendly city,” said Gonzales Mayor Barney Arceneaux, who serves as honorary festival chair. “The Awesome Arts on the Bayou Festival is a celebration of our culture with great food, entertainment and original artwork. I invite people to bring their families and enjoy our hospitality.”

The festival will include live Cajun music by the Hot Pepper Band, bluegrass music by the Jemini Venture Band and American and folk music by the Fugitive Poets. There also will be more than 80 vendors selling original and handmade arts and crafts, along with a Children’s Village featuring puppet performances and hands-on activities for kids.

The Gonzales City Hall will be showing more than 300 entries in the Awesome Art Exhibit, and the festival will offer food and soft drinks for sale.
