Gala to honor blues legends

The inaugural Baton Rouge Blues Foundation Blues Gala will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at the Capitol Park Museum.

The event will honor blues centenarians Lightnin’ Hopkins, Emanuel Crump and T-Bone Walker and feature a blues jam with Kenny Neal, Larry Garner, Henry Gray, Chris Thomas King and Lil’ Ray Neal and a silent auction staged by the Baton Rouge Blues Society. Tickets for the gala are $35 and include a year’s membership in the nonprofit Baton Rouge Blues Foundation. Tickets are available by calling (225) 274-6902.

Continuum to release 5 CDs

Continuum Music, a small Baton Rouge record label, is releasing five albums by local artists and groups.

A CD release show with jazz and blues singer Ernest Jackson and rhythm-and-blues and neo-soul quartet the Soul Jukeboxx is set for 8 p.m. Thursday, July 19, at the Famous Theatre. Jackson recorded his CD, Moments Reflected, at Word of Mouth Studio in New Orleans with the John Gray Quartet.

The Soul Jukeboxx recorded Live in Chat-Town in Chattanooga, Tenn. Funkin’ With Friends Vol. 1, another in-concert CD, features the Michael Foster Project and the Soul Jukeboxx.

In addition to the latter new releases, Continuum is re-issuing two CDs by trumpeter John Gray, Any Given Thursday: John Gray Live at the M Bar and The Continuum Experience.
