Top 5 nightlife events this weekend

Feb. 3 – 4, 2012

It’s finally February and most minds are on one thing: Mardi Gras. If you thought of Valentine’s Day, you’re either not from around here or you’re in a new relationship. If it’s the latter, you probably should have waited until after Mardi Gras. Either way, the next few weekends will be full of parades, parties and balls. Don’t worry, we’ve also remembered the great local bands that will be playing around the area, but everyone should get prepared for the biggest party of the year.

Perfect Ten Productions Mardi Gras Ball

Perfect Ten Productions is presenting this month’s First Friday event, and you guessed it, it’s a Mardi Gras ball. This is the perfect opportunity to dress up and party the night away. Located at the Renaissance Hotel on Bluebonnet Boulevard, the ball will feature a live band, a DJ, and complimentary food, which is always great.

The ball starts at 8:00 p.m. at the Renaissance Hotel on Friday, Feb. 3. Tickets are available for $50 by calling (225)214-7800.

Blue Man Group

Everyone has heard of the Blue Man Group. These guys are everywhere—from the U.S. to Berlin—and their shows are full of crazy comedy, musical acts, and amazing theatrics. You don’t just watch their performance, you experience it.

The Blue Man Group will be coming to the Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts in New Orleans on Friday, Feb. 3. Their show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets start at $30 at www.ticketmaster.com.

Krewe du Vieux parade

One of the most unique parades of the Mardi Gras season is here with the Krewe du Vieux in New Orleans. The Krewe du Vieux is known for its hilarious satire and wild adult themes. Some of the best brass and jazz bands of New Orleans will also be showcased in this parade. Dress up in your craziest attire because this will be a rowdy night!

This parade will be located in the French Quarter of New Orleans on Saturday, Feb. 4. It starts at 6:30 p.m. at Franklin Avenue. To check out route information, go to http://www.kreweduvieux.org/parade.html

Colour Revolt

The month of February is a big one for Colour Revolt. They are patiently waiting for their EP to be released on Feb. 7, on vinyl. This clear 12-inch vinyl will be a limited edition and will feature six songs. To celebrate this release, they are playing a few select shows, and Spanish Moon in Baton Rouge is one of them. Come out, grab a drink, and listen to the rock sounds of this rising band.

The show is Saturday, Feb. 4, at 9:00 p.m. at Spanish Moon in Baton Rouge. Cover is $10 at the door.

Jason Martin

If you’re into Johnny Cash, George Straight, Chris Ledoux, and Conway Twitty, then Jason Martin is the guy to listen to. He pulls his influences from these country legends and delivers a great show. His songs “Keepin’ it Country,” and “Texas Boy,” describe what you’ll experience at this show. Unfortunately, I don’t think the venue will feature a mechanical bull, but it will definitely be a honky-tonk party.

Come out to the Roux House this Saturday, Feb. 4, to see Jason Martin. The show starts at 10:00 p.m. Visit http://www.rouxhousebr.com for more information.
