LSU Opera season

The first production in the LSU Opera’s 2012-13 season, Romberg and Hammerstein’s The New Moon, one of the last great Broadway operettas, set on the colorful New Orleans and Louisiana coast of the late 1700s, is set for Thursday through Sunday, Oct. 25-28, in the Claude L. Shaver Theatre in the LSU Music and Dramatic Arts Building, Dalrymple Drive on campus. The season will continue with La Tragédie de Carmen on Nov. 16 and 18; The Turn of the Screw, March 21-24, 2013; and Impressions de Pelléas, April 19 and 21, 2013. Corn maze time

The Corn Maze at Burden will open the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 22-23. Earnest tickets on sale

Newcomb pottery exhibit

The exhibit The Palm, The Pine and The Cypress: Newcomb Pottery of New Orleans will open with gala benefit hosted by the Friends of the Cabildo from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at Madame John’s Legacy, 632 Dumaine St., New Orleans. The exhibit displays more than 50 glazed ceramics paired with archival photographs of Newcomb potters at work from the late 1890s through the 1940s. This is the first Louisiana State Museum exhibition held at Madame John’s Legacy since Hurricane Katrina, marking its return as a showcase for Louisiana decorative arts.
