BR Little Theater looks for casts for next season

Baton Rouge Little Theater has set audition dates for its 2012-13 Season of Story & Song. Scripts will be available for check out at the box office with a $20 refundable deposit per script. Audition requirements vary among shows, and audition appointments can be made by calling the box office. The audition schedule is:

•   7 p.m. Sunday and Monday, Aug. 5-6, The Importance of Being Earnest, directed by Kurt Hauschild. Performances are set for Sept. 28-Oct. 14.
•  5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, vocal auditions; Monday, Sept. 10, call backs, Always ... Patsy Cline, directed by Jeff Yunek. Performances are set for Nov. 2-18. Vocal auditions are by appointment only.
•  10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, children’s auditions by appointment only; 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, adult auditions and children’s call backs, A Christmas Carol directed by Keith Dixon. Performances will be Dec. 7-16.
•  7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 17-18, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf directed by Dixon. Performances are set for Jan. 18-Feb. 13, 2013.
•  10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, vocal auditions by appointment only; Sunday, Nov. 11, dance auditions and call backs; Monday, Nov. 12, final call backs, City of Angels directed by Dixon. Performances are set for March 8-24, 2013.
•  7 p.m. Sunday and Monday, March 17-18, 2013, Move Over, Mrs. Markham directed by Kevin Harger. Performances are set for May 3-19, 2013.

Arts Market set

The next Baton Rouge Arts Market is set for 8 a.m.-noon Saturday, Aug. 4, at Fifth and Main streets.

The market features free children’s activities from 9 a.m. to noon at the Arts Market Kids Booth and runs in conjunction with the weekly Red Stick Farmers Market and the Main Street Market. Baton Rouge Gallery Center for Contemporary Art’s August exhibitions, featuring work by artist members Dawn Black, Scott Finch and Lisa Qualls, will open Sunday, July 29, at the gallery, 1515 Dalrympe Drive. A First Wednesday Opening Reception is set for 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, and the show will run through Thursday, Aug. 30. The exhibit Uniquely Louisiana will open Saturday, Aug. 11, at the LSU Museum of Art in the Shaw Center for the Arts, 100 Lafayette St.

The exhibit, The Celebrated Houma Oyster: The History of the Cenac Family and Early Oyster Industry in Southeast Louisiana, will run through Friday, Aug. 24, at the Louisiana State Archives, 3851 Essen Lane. Mermaid auditions, tickets

Playmakers of Baton Rouge will conduct auditions for its season opener, Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Jr. on Sunday, Aug. 5, at the Reilly Theatre, Tower Drive, LSU campus. Auditions will be 2-4 p.m. for ages 8-11, and at 4-5 p.m. for ages 12-17.

Also, Playmakers is offering an audition workshop for students ages 8-17 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, July 27, in the Reilly Theatre, and tickets are on sale for Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Jr., which is set for Oct. 5-7 also in the Reilly Theatre. At the Historic Collection

The Historic New Orleans Collection, 533 Royal St., New Orleans, is showcasing a selection of its most recent acquisitions in the exhibit Something Old, Something New: Collecting in the 21st Century, which runs through Feb. 8, 2013.
