From the Top host O’Riley to perform with LSU Symphony rchestra Feb. 24
Christopher O’Riley, an acclaimed pianist and host of National Public Radio’s From the Top program, will perform with the LSU Symphony Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, in the LSU Student Union Theater, Raphael Semmes Drive on campus.
O’Riley also is the LSU College of Music & Dramatic Arts’ first James M. Syler Visiting Distinguished Artist in Residence. He performed with the orchestra in 2011 and will perform a recital later in the semester. Tickets are $28, general admission; $19, faculty, staff and seniors; and $15, students with ID.
The orchestra then will travel to the Mesquite Arts Center in Mesquite, Texas, on Saturday, Feb. 25, for a second concert with O’Riley. That concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Conductor Carlos Riazuelo will lead the orchestra in both concerts.
O’Riley will solo on Beethoven’s “Piano Concerto No. 5 — The Emperor.” The program also includes “Danzion No. 2” by Arturo Marquez and “Symphony No. 4 in G major” by Antonin Dvorak.
