Forum tickets
Tickets are on sale for Baton Rouge Little Theater’s upcoming production of Stephen Sondheim’s musical comedy A Funny Thing Happened On The Way to the Forum, which opens Friday, March 9, at the theater, 7155 Florida Blvd. The production will run on Thursdays through Sundays through March 25. Three events have been scheduled this week in the LSU School of Music:
- Yung-Chiao Wei, LSU professor of music, will perform a double bass recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, in the LSU School of Music Recital Hall, Dalrymple Drive on campus. The Baton Rouge Chinese Association will sponsor a silent auction following the recital in the School of Music’s lounge. Chinese hors d’oeuvres will be served. All auction proceeds will benefit the Baton Rouge Chinese School for the education of Chinese language and culture.

At the Burden Center
Several events are happening at the Burden Center, 5460 Essen Lane:
- The Burden Center offers urban hiking, which includes two miles of hiking and walking trails. The Burden Woods open at 8:30 a.m. daily.
- The Burden Center’s Camellia Gardens are blooming, featuring hundreds of varieties.
- The second annual Brush with Burden art show will open with a reception from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at the Orangerie and Burden Conference Center, 4560 Essen Lane. Refreshments and a cash bar will be available. The juried competition features works depicting landscape, architectural structures, flora and fauna of the Burden Center, available for purchase and runs through March 11. Hours are 3 p.m.-5 p.m. Sundays, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays. Admission is free.

The Feliciana Art Show has issued an open invitation to area artists to participate in the show, which takes place in conjunction with the Jackson Assembly’s 47th annual Antique Show and Sale March 23-25. Dickens film fest
LSU will screen a series of films based on the works of Charles Dickens as part of the worldwide celebration of the author’s 200th birthday. The festival runs through April 16, ending with George Cukor’s David Copperfield, the 1935 film that cemented Hollywood’s fascination with Dickens adaptations. Also, LSU’s Hill Memorial Library is showcasing its collection of rare material on Dickens throughout the spring. Events will begin at 6 p.m. in Coates 143 on LSU’s campus. Admission is free. Scholarships awarded
After students from more than 100 towns throughout Louisiana entered The George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts’ 2012 Art Contest, 20 students were awarded $50,000 in scholarships and awards. Among them were Mary Rolfsen of St. Joseph’s Academy, who placed 11th in the senior division for a $1,500 scholarship; and Morgan Barranco, also of St. Joseph’s Academy, who placed second in the junior division for a $1,000 scholarship. The scholarships were announced on Feb. 4 in a ceremony at the Hyatt Regency in New Orleans.
