Baton Rouge Community College will host its second annual Gospel Festival at 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, in the Magnolia Performing Arts Pavilion on campus. Film fest event

Hallock in the mansion

Three of south Louisiana artist Carol Hallock’s New Orleans-themed paintings are now hanging in the Louisiana Governor’s Mansion. Hallock lives in a home on stilts on Bayou Lacombe in Louisiana and often paints the surrounding bayou and marsh from her kayak. She has produced books of her work as well as instructional videos. Her work can be found at Jean Bragg Gallery at 600 Julia St. in New Orleans.

Architects commissioned

Trahan Architects has been commissioned to design an $880 million mixed-use development in Zhengzhou, a rapidly developing transportation hub linking east and west China. The Henan Hongguang Industry Group chose Trahan Architects to design a 4.3 million-square-foot project. Art show winners

Winning artworks were recognized Jan. 29 at the opening reception for River Community Church’s first children’s community art show. Seventeen artworks from area artists ages 5 to 13 were entered in the show. The show was judged by Donna Braud of the River Region Art Association. Those receiving ribbons were:

  • Ages 5-9 Group: Fredricka Anderson, first place, “Self Portrait”; Charity Campbell, second place, “Sandy Beach”; and Sara Summers, third place, “Genesis 1:1.” Honorable mentions went to Campbell Shipley, “Martin Luther King, Jr.”; and Mace Shipley, “Genie Flying Through Time and Space.”
  • Ages 10-13 Group: Ameliese Brennan Smith, first place, “Drawing a Drawing”; Cole Shipley, second place, “Me, Myself, and I”; and Camille Fabre, third place, “A Cajun Man’s Best Friend.” Honorable mention went to Angel Melancon, “The Swamp Flower.”

“Uros House,” a site-specific lighting sculpture installation by artist Grimanesa Amorós, is on view at the Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum, 710 E. St. Mary Blvd., Lafayette.
