Sep 20, 2014 17:37 ‘Nutcracker,’ ‘Beyond Ballet’ to highlight BR Ballet season ‘Nutcracker,’ ‘Beyond Ballet’ to highlight BR Ballet season Advocate staff report Sept. 20, 2014 Comments The Dance Theatre of Harlem, Baton Rouge holiday favorite, “The Nutcracker — A Tale from the Bayou,” and a mixed bill spring concert, “Beyond Ballet,” featuring ballet, contemporary ballet and modern dance, fills the Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre’s bill for the 2014-15 main stage season. The company begins its season by hosting Dance Theatre of Harlem at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28. Now celebrating its 45th year, the company will perform an eclectic program of ballet in sync with the 21st Century. The company first performed in Baton Rouge in 2001. The season continues with the holiday tradition, “The Nutcracker — A Tale from the Bayou,” at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 20-21. The production incorporates local landmarks and features world-class guest artists, the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra and more than 300 children. The company will end its performance season at 7:30 p.m. April 17, with “Beyond Ballet,” a mixed-bill performance featuring styles of ballet, modern ballet and contemporary dance. Baton Rouge’s local professional dancers will showcase new works by both nationally known guests and local choreographers. All performances will be at the River Center Theatre for the Performing Arts.
