Baton Rouge Theater, 7155 Florida Blvd., has scheduled auditions for three upcoming productions:

• Vocal auditions for its production of the Stephen Sondheim musical A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, and are by appointment only. Dance auditions and call backs will be Sunday and Monday, Jan. 22-23. These audition times will be announced later. The production will run Thursdays through Sundays, March 9-25.

• Auditions for the Second Stage production of David Mamet’s play Speed-The-Plow will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, with call backs at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24. The play will run Feb. 24-March 4.

• Auditions for the Second Stage production of Steve Martin’s play The Underpants will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, with call backs at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24. The play will run April 13-22.

Sculptor at LSU

The LSU College of Art & Design’s Distinguished Lecture Series presents sculptor/artist Jesús Moroles at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, in Room 103 of the Design Building. The lecture is free.

Moroles established himself as one of the master sculptors of his generation in 1996 with a “sculpture plaza” for the Edwin A. Ulrich Museum in Wichita, Kan. Moroles’ work also will be on exhibition Jan. 22-April 29 at the LSU Museum of Art in the Shaw Center for the Arts, 100 Lafayette St.

Philharmonic collaboration

The LSU College of Music & Dramatic Arts is set to begin a 30-month collaboration with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, funded through a $750,000 award to the orchestra by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation

The LPO-LSU partnership will use resources from the only full-time professional orchestra in the Gulf South and the flagship public university of Louisiana to expand the market of music performance and create 21st century access through technology to music and educational content.

The first project of the LPO-LSU partnership will be a live internet webcast of “Becoming American: A Musical Journey” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, from St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans. This concert is offered as part of the orchestra’s multi-year partnership with The Historic New Orleans Collection and celebrates the Bicentennial of Louisiana Statehood.

Arbor Day celebration

The Burden Center, 4560 Essen Lane, will host Arbor Day at the Burden Center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21. Visitors will plant trees. There also will be a 5K hike, scavenger hunt, hayrides, bonfires, an appearance by Smokey the Bear, hot dogs, sodas and free seedlings to bring home. Admission is $10, family; $5, individuals.
