Body found along levee in Donaldsonville

Body of young black male not ID’d; police treating incident as homicide

The body of a young black male was found along the Mississippi River levee in Donaldsonville on Thursday afternoon, Ascension Parish sheriff’s deputies said.

Sheriff Jeff Wiley said his deputies are investigating but the cause of death and the young male’s identity have not been determined.

“We are treating this as a homicide,” Wiley said in a statement.

The body was found near the Elray Kocke Service Inc. cement plant in Donaldsonville, deputies said.

Separately, sheriff’s deputies have been searching this week for 15-year-old Brandon Augusta, who was last seen leaving his home in Donaldsonville and getting into a gray car about 1 p.m. Sunday.

Deputies have said they suspected Augusta, who is black, was in the Baton Rouge area. Deputies said Wednesday that Augusta was still missing.

A sheriff’s spokeswoman would not comment Thursday on any link between Augusta and the body.
