GONZALES — Ascension, St. James and Livingston parishes agreed Tuesday to extend the closure of all inland waterways to recreational boating traffic until at least Thursday morning, Ascension Parish officials said.
The inland waterways include the Amite River, the Amite River Diversion Canal, the Blind River and the Tickfaw River, Rick Webre, director of the Ascension Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, said in a news release Tuesday.
“After an assessment has been made by all of the parishes involved, we will send out a release on Thursday morning,” Webre said.
The waterways were closed after heavy rainfall last week caused flooding and raised water levels.
