LSU presents play, musical, opera

LSU Opera presents “Two Tales of America” at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Sunday at Claude L. Shaver Theatre, Music and Dramatic Arts Building, Dalrymple Drive, LSU. Tickets are $20 for the general public; $15 for faculty, staff and seniors; $12 for students. For details, call (225) 578-5128.

Lecture focuses on Kennedy’s drive in La.

Pet events planned in area this week

The Capital Area Animal Welfare Society will host cat adoptions 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at Acadian Village Petco, 3535 Perkins Road. The society also holds dog adoptions 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at the CAAWS Shelter, 6357 Quinn Drive. For more information, go to caaws.org.

Mid City art hop spotlights local artists

Mid City Merchants presents its White Light Night Art Hop 6 p.m.-10 p.m. Friday in the Mid City Business District.

More than 60 businesses will participate, featuring artists and their work. Seven venues will feature live music and all will offer refreshments. The event will take place rain or shine and features food and drinks, shopping and live music at businesses along the route. Shuttle service is available.

Turkey Trot includes Guinness challenge

The March of Dimes Turkey Trot will begin at 7:30 a.m. Thursday at Convention and Fourth Street, downtown. Participants will also be part of an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for most runners in a multi-venue event in the same day. Registration is $30 in advance and $40 on the day of the race.
