The LSU volleyball team opens a stretch of three matches over the next five days and looks to end a season long two-match losing streak when the Tigers travel to Texas A&M.
Wednesday’s first serve is at 7 p.m. The match will be televised by ESPNU.
LSU (10-3, 0-1 SEC) and Texas A&M (9-5, 1-2 SEC) are meeting for only the second time as Southeastern Conference members, but the two teams have had four of its last seven meetings dating to 2002 go five sets.
“For LSU, having Texas A&M in the SEC just adds to the rivalry within our league,” LSU coach Fran Flory said. “It’s been an amazing long term rivalry against another great program.
Four of Texas A&M’s five losses have come versus American Volleyball Coaches Assoction Top 25 opponents. The Aggies are sparked by Allie Sawatzky, an All-SEC preseason team selection. She has posted four triple-doubles (assists, kills and digs). Top hitters for A&M are Sierra Patrick and Angela Lowak who rank among the SEC’s Top 15 with 3.49 and 3.20 kills per set.
Last time out, LSU was swept by defending national champion and fourth-ranked Texas.
Haley Smith has led LSU’s back row. She leads the team-with 3.66 digs per set. She has collected 10-plus digs in nine consecutive outings at libero.
LSU’s Malorie Pardo averages 12.98 kills per set and her 10.85 assists per set rank fifth among SEC setters.
Cati Leak and Briana Holman continue to pace the Tigers attack with over three kills per set. Leak’s team-high 3.50 kills per set are eighth best in the SEC.
Holman leads the SEC with 1.54 blocks per set, which is second nationally.
Clarke, Fletcher Receive National Awards: After receiving weekly awards from the Southeastern Conference on Monday for leading LSU to an SEC road sweep this past weekend, freshmen Summer Clarke and Emma Fletcher were among the 11 members of the TopDrawerSoccer.com women’s college team of the week.
Clarke was also TopDrawerSoccer.com Women’s National Player of the Week and College Sports Madness Women’s Soccer SEC Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Clarke scored five of LSU’s eight goals this past weekend, including both game-winning goals in a road sweep of Arkansas and Alabama. Fletcher assisted on four of Clarke’s five goals.
