19-year-old Gretna man shot to death Friday night in Algiers

A 19-year-old Gretna man was shot to death late Friday in Algiers, police said.

The shooting happened about 11 p.m. in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 1500 block of Southlawn Boulevard, said Officer Garry Flot, a New Orleans Police Department spokesman.

The victim’s name was withheld pending notification of his family.

Police responding to a report that shots had been fired found the victim shot multiple times. He died at the scene, Flot said.

Detectives were questioning two people about the shooting but did not announce any arrests Saturday.

Homicide Detective Maggie Darling is in charge of the investigation.

Friday’s shooting happened near where another man was gunned down late last month. Matthew George, 23, was found about 10:45 p.m. Aug. 29 lying in the parking lot of an apartment building in the same block. Police have not said if they believe the shootings are related.

In an unrelated shooting Saturday, a man was shot in the leg about 3:51 a.m. in the 2400 block of St. Louis Street in New Orleans. Police did not provide any information on his condition.

Anyone with information about any of these incidents is asked to contact Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
