FRANKLIN — The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office identified the victim Wednesday in the suspected homicide of a man whose body was found early Monday.
Sheriff’s officials said the body of Jarnell A. McDaniel, 24, of Franklin, was spotted by someone who called the Sheriff’s Office.
Responding deputies found McDaniel’s body near Sorrel on La. 182 between Jeanerette and Franklin.
Authorities did not release McDaniel’s identification until his family was notified.
Jazmine Jamal Jackson, 20, was booked Tuesday on one count of first-degree murder of McDaniel, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Traci Landry said. Jackson was arrested at 1:54 a.m. as he walked on Main Street in Franklin.
The suspect did not resist arrest, Landry said in a news release.
Detectives received a tip late Monday saying Jackson was the suspect, Landry said.
“Detectives believe Jackson drove the victim to Sorrel Bridge Approach Road and shot him,” Landry said.
The investigation is continuing, she said.
