Located off Essen Lane, one of the busiest thoroughfares in Baton Rouge, the LSU Rural Life Museum, Burden Center, Ag Center Botanic Gardens and Windrush Gardens provide an oasis of calm in a busy city. Many visitors have remarked on the small miracle of feeling at such a remove from urban life while visiting the lush grounds, even though the perpetual traffic jam of Essen Lane is only a few yards away.
LSU officials recently renamed the Burden Center and adjacent Rural Life Museum as the new Burden Museum and Gardens. This rebranding is part of a broader effort to promote the conference center, museum and gardens as a regional attraction.
We hope that effort pays off. More people need to know about this hidden treasure in the heart of Baton Rouge.
We’d like more of those who live outside the city make the effort to visit. Truth be told, many Baton Rouge residents have yet to sample what the Burden Museum and Gardens have to offer. More information about the museum and conference center is available at a new website, www.discoverburden.com. We urge residents of south Louisiana to take a look.
