Football Class 5A to 4A

1. Catholic (2-0)

Yes, it took a late field goal for the Bears to edge Mandeville, but to date they’ve met every challenge.

2. East Ascension (2-0)

Spartans have been impressive on offense, including 66 points last week.

3. Dutchtown (2-0)

The Griffins have met every challenge to date.

4. Scotlandville (2-0)

Big win at East St. John gives the Hornets added credibility.

5. Central (2-0)

The Wildcats have feasted on two rebuilding opponents. Jesuit offers a test this week.

6. Woodlawn (2-0)

The Panthers still have plenty to prove, but they’re still unbeaten after going 1-9 last year.

T-7. Denham Springs (1-1)

Notable win over 4A Salmen last week puts the Yellow Jackets in position for a showdown with Catholic.

T-7. Plaquemine (1-1)

The Green Devils pushed East Ascension to the limit, then posted a nice win over Brusly.

9. St. Amant (1-1)

Kudos to the Gators for rebounding after a Week 1 loss before this week’s test at H.L. Bourgeois.

10. Lutcher (0-2)

The Bulldogs are bruised and have been beaten twice. They need a win this week to get back on track.

Football Class 3A to 1A

1. University (2-0)

The Cubs continue to pile up points. They face another 4A foe this week.

2. Parkview Baptist (1-1)

The Eagles righted the ship in a big way after the loss to Catholic by beating Broadmoor.

3. Livonia (2-0)

A big win over rival Pointe Coupee Central keeps the Wildcats in the upper echelon.

4. West Feliciana (1-1)

The Saints narrowly lost to a ranked Class 4A team last week.

5. Brusly (1-1)

Last week’s loss to 4A rival Plaquemine may just be a bump in the road.

6. White Castle (2-0)

WCHS don’t have much depth along the lines but is talented and consistent so far.

7. East Feliciana (1-1)

Class 2A Tigers got their first win over 4A Belaire after a loss to rival West Feliciana.

8. Springfield (1-1)

The Bulldogs have scored 104 points in two games and face a rival in 3A Albany this week.

9. Episcopal (2-0)

The Knights beat a 3A foe to start the season and have been steady to date.

10. Capitol (1-1)

A big loss to 5A McKinley isn’t the end of the world, but it will be interesting to see the response.
