Russell Gage scored the game-winning touchdown on a 1-yard run with about five minutes to go in the game, lifting Redemptorist to a 28-21 win over Port Allen on Friday night.
Gage ran for 134 yards on 25 carries and scored three TDs to help RHS (1-1) garner its first win since the 2011 season. RHS finished 0-9 in 2012.
Redemptorist compiled 220 rushing yards. Kaleb Battle added 66 yards on 11 carries and scored the other TD for the Wolves, who gave first-year coach Terence Williams his first victory at the school.
DUNHAM 44, ASCENSION CATHOLIC 24: The Dunham School, of Class 2A, scored 23 first-quarter points en route to a Saturday morning victory over 1A Ascension Catholic in a game played at Dunham’s stadium.
Quarterback Jyron Walker completed 12-of-29 passes for 311 yards and two TDs to help power the Tigers (1-1). Josh Ellis had three catches for 149 yards and two TDs for the home team.
Tony Huey finished with 67 yards on eight carries and also scored two TDs for Dunham. Gilbert Allen (12-yard run), James Martin (2-yard run) and Cleveland Fefie (73-yard pass from D.J. Latino scored for ACHS (1-1).
MCDONOGH (No. 35) 36, LUTCHER 0: In Lutcher, ninth-ranked McDonogh 35 rolled up 347 yards in a showdown of ranked Class 4A teams.
Darius Mays ran for 84 yards and scored two TDs for the Roneagles (1-1), who also got 62 yards on eight carries from Rondell Cruell.
McDonogh 35 took control by scoring 16 third-quarter points on TD runs of 29 and 22 yards by Mays. Sixth-ranked Lutcher (0-2) managed just 137 yards of total offense.
Jontrey Kirlin completed 2-of-6 passes for 47 yards, for Lutcher, which has scored just one TD in its first two games.
NORTHEAST 8, BAKER 6: In Pride, host Northeast parlayed a safety and a short TD pass into its first victory in another game delayed by the weather.
The Vikings (1-1) scored first with a safety when Baker’s punter fumbled the ball in the end zone. NHS then drove 65 yards to score. Darryl Adams caught a 4-yard scoring pass from Marqueon Minor to make it 8-0.
Baker (1-1) got within two by blocking a punt. Darius Neff led a group of BHS players who rushed in to block the punt. Edward Williams then scored on a 3-yard run for the Buffaloes to complete the scoring.
