A 34-year-old Baton Rouge man pleaded guilty Friday in the 2009 shooting death of a man on Joplin Avenue and was sentenced to 50 years in prison.
Andy Anderson, who faced charges of second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in the death of 39-year-old Cornelius Harris, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and armed robbery, East Baton Rouge Parish Assistant District Attorney David deBlieux said.
Under the terms of a plea deal approved by the victim’s family, state District Judge Mike Erwin sentenced Anderson to 40 years on the manslaughter charge and 50 years on the armed robbery charge. He ordered the terms to run concurrently, meaning Anderson must serve the 50-year term.
Anderson was accused of killing Harris on Aug. 23, 2009, during an armed robbery in a parking lot in the 1000 block of Joplin, police have said.
Anderson was previously convicted of simple burglary, his December 2009 indictment said.
