Let the bidding begin.

Friends of Louisiana Public Broadcasting opens its 2013 Art & Travel Auction with “Art Rocks” 5:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Friday at the LPB studios, 7733 Perkins Road.

The celebration for art lovers of all ages will feature more than 270 pieces of artwork donated by more than 200 Louisiana artists. Admission is free and the public is invited. There will also be food, spirits, live music by the Michael Foster Project, and artists painting live throughout the evening.

Visitors will be the first to see the art in person and can use the “buy it now” option. “Buy it now” prices are 20 percent below retail value. Along with the artwork, there will also be various Louisiana travel packages available, including a safari adventure with a private tour at Global Wildlife, a stay at L’Auberge Casino Resort in Lake Charles, tickets to Bayou Country Superfest 2014 or a romantic stay at the Parc England Hotel in Alexandria with dinner at Bistro on the Bayou.

The funds raised will be used to purchase programming for LPB, enabling LPB to continue to provide educational and entertaining television to all the people of Louisiana.

Donated works will be available for online bidding through Oct. 24, and the art exhibition at LPB will also run through that date. The auction will be televised live at 7 p.m. Oct. 24.

Partners in this year’s auction include Lynne & Jeff Pisto, RoyOMartin, Turner Industries, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Baxter, Country Roads Magazine, Heirloom Cuisine, Events by Sarah Ashley and Baton Rouge Coca-Cola.
