GONZALES — Ascension Parish sheriff’s investigators are probing the death of 3-year-old boy Sunday evening whose head was trapped in a partially open car window, sheriff’s deputies said Monday.
Deputies were told the boy had apparently wandered unnoticed from a house at 43058 La. 931, Gonzales, at about 6:30 p.m.
Adults looked for the toddler after he was missing for just a few minutes, deputies said. The boy was hanging by his neck with his head in the window of the Chevrolet Lumina, deputies said.
The window in the parked car had been left cracked open and the boy’s head was in the opening with his body outside the car, deputies said.
Standing up, the boy was not tall enough to put his head in the window, which is operated manually from inside the car, but would have needed to climb on something to reach the window, deputies said.
When responders arrived, the boy had already been removed from the window and taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, deputies said.
Deputies have not identified the boy or the adults involved.
