When Saints fans arrived for Sunday’s showdown with the Falcons, they found a special commemorative edition of The New Orleans Advocate draped over their seats. The 24-page special edition celebrated Steve Gleason, who was honored at Sunday’s game for his courageous fight against Lou Gehrig’s disease. The edition was made possible by a marketing deal between the team and New Orleans’ only daily newspaper. More than 200 volunteers showed up Saturday night to distribute the sections. They were joined by John and Dathel Georges, who purchased The Advocate four months ago and launched The New Orleans Advocate in August. The section was also distributed to Advocate subscribers in New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Acadiana.
