State Police on Sunday identified the 27-year-old woman who died in a two-vehicle crash on La. 930 on Saturday morning.
Trooper First Class Jared Sandifer said the victim has been identified as Elsa Diaz of Prairieville.
Troopers had trouble identifying Diaz at the scene of the accident because she possessed false identification, Sandifer said.
The wreck happened when Diaz ran a stop sign shortly before 10:30 a.m. in a 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser headed east on Henry Road. The PT Cruiser she was driving was struck by a 1999 Ford F-450 pickup headed south on La. 930.
Diaz was wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.
There were six passengers in the PT Cruiser at the time of the crash, including a child taken to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge with serious injuries
Sandifer said Sunday that the child’s injuries were still considered serious.
The other five passengers, including some under the age of 18, were also taken to hospitals following the crash.
The driver of the Ford, Mark Heffley, 44, of Denham Springs, did not receive any serious injuries in the crash and was not taken to a hospital.
Police do not suspect impairment on the part of either driver as a factor in the crash.
