A woman was killed and a child was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash Saturday morning on La. 930 in Ascension Parish, State Police said.
The wreck happened when a woman — who police could not immediately identify because she allegedly possessed false identification — ran a stop sign in a 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser headed east on Henry Road. The PT Cruiser she was driving was struck by a 1999 Ford F-450 pickup headed south on La. 930, said Trooper 1st Class Jared Sandifer, a State Police spokesman.
The woman, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, Sandifer said.
There were six passengers in the PT Cruiser at the time of the crash, including the child taken to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge, Sandifer said.
The other five passengers, including some under the age of 18, were also taken to hospitals following the crash, he said.
The driver of the Ford, Mark Heffley, 44, of Denham Springs, did not receive any serious injuries in the crash and was not taken to a hospital, Sandifer said.
Police do not suspect impairment on the part of either driver as a factor in the crash.
