VOLUNTEER IN THE OUTDOORS, Trees and Trails at Burden Center — Pamela Rupert, (225) 763-3990 or email TnTDocents@gmail.com: Trees and Trails at Burden Center, sponsored by Burden Horticulture Society and LSU AgCenter’s Botanic Gardens, is looking for additional volunteers to help lead or guide students through their outdoor environmental programs. Fun, interactive activities for grades K through second and third through seventh are conducted from mid-September through mid-November, teaching students about the value of nature. Volunteers select the days that work best with their schedules. VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE, Capital Area United Way — Jillian Sergio, (225) 382-3507 or JillianS@cauw.org: CAUW is seeking Volunteer Income Tax Assistance volunteers for the 2014 tax season. Last year, VITA volunteers helped the community save an estimated $677,850 on tax preparation fees. VITA helpers will receive IRS training in October and November to provide free tax preparation for low- to moderate-income families who need assistance with their tax returns.
