A crash Saturday night on Interstate 10 near the La. 928/Bluff Road overpass left one woman dead after her Jeep struck a guard rail and concrete girder, State Police say.
Troopers say Taslein Whitney, 36, of Baton Rouge, was driving a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee east on I-10 when she began drifting left off the road and over-corrected to the right, Trooper First Class Nick Manale said.
When she over-corrected, the Jeep crossed two lanes and struck the end of a guard rail at the La. 928/Bluff Road overpass, then continued up an embankment and hit a concrete girder underneath the overpass, Manale said.
Whitney and her passenger, Bobby Joe Beckham, 34, of Baton Rouge, were not wearing their seat belts, Manale said.
Whitney was ejected from the Jeep and died from her injuries while Beckham sustained moderate injuries, Manale said.
Troopers submitted a sample of Whitney’s blood to the State Police Crime Lab to determine if impairment was a factor in the crash, Manale said.
