LAFAYETTE — A man considered a person of interest in the killing of a woman in Lafayette late Wednesday was found dead from a gunshot wound, police said Thursday.
Officers responded at 11:10 p.m. Wednesday to a report of burglary in the 1300 block of West University Avenue and found a woman believed to have been killed by a gunshot wound, according to a news release from Lafayette police.
Detectives responding to a tip that a person of interest in the investigation was at a home near the intersection of Lamar and Cleveland Street found a man there dead from a gunshot wound Thursday morning, police spokesman Cpl. Nicole Benoit said.
The identities of the man and woman have not been released nor have any other details of the investigation.
Benoit said Thursday afternoon that detectives could not confirm whether the incident is being investigated as a murder-suicide or a double homicide.
“They are still working on all the connections,” Benoit said.
