Authorities on Wednesday located an LSU senior from Ascension Parish whose family had not heard from him since early Tuesday.
St. Gabriel Police Chief Kevin Ambeau said a Baton Rouge police helicopter scanning the area for Christopher Broussard located his 2004 Nissan Frontier just after 7 p.m. off La. 30 in Iberville Parish.
With the help of Broussard’s family, authorities were able to identify the lone body found inside the truck as Broussard, Ambeau said.
“He was a wonderful, loving son, and I’m going to miss him very much,” said Lisa Broussard, Christopher’s mother.
She said her son was scheduled to graduate from LSU in December with a degree in sociology.
Lisa Broussard said she had exchanged text messages with her son shortly before he left Bogie’s Bar & Grill early Tuesday morning in Baton Rouge, where he had been hanging out with friends.
“The last thing he did before he left was help a friend to his car,” Broussard said.
She expected him to return to their Geismar home or stay at a friend’s house and contact her first thing the next morning.
It was particularly unusual, the mother said, for Christopher Broussard to miss work at Exerfit fitness center in Baton Rouge without calling.
“He never showed up at work, and he’s never missed work because he really likes the place. He’s always prompt,” she said.
Ambeau said authorities believe that Broussard was traveling south on La. 30 when he lost control of his vehicle and then slammed into a guardrail before his vehicle went airborne and landed in Bayou Manchac.
Ambeau said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Broussard, 22, was last seen at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday leaving the bar.
Baton Rouge police Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said Wednesday that investigators had no reason to suspect foul play in the incident.
Baton Rouge police, LSU police and sheriff’s offices in Ascension and Iberville parishes assisted in the investigation.
“Without Baton Rouge air support, I think we’d probably still be looking for that vehicle,” Ambeau said.
