The LSU women’s basketball team will play in the Preseason Women’s National Invitational Tournament, travel to the Barclays Center Invitational in Brooklyn, N.Y., and host perennial powers Tennessee and Texas A&M as the team’s 2013-14 schedule was released Tuesday.
LSU will face at least 11 teams NCAA tournament teams from last season and possibly more should it advance through the WNIT bracket, which features Final Four participant Louisville, Oklahoma and Gonzaga.
The Lady Tigers’ WNIT season-opener against Stephen F. Austin on Friday, Nov. 8 will also be the Sue Gunter Classic in the Maravich Center.
The Lady Tigers face Rutgers at noon Nov. 29. Michigan and Texas Tech meet in the first contest.
The two losers then face off at 6 p.m. Saturday, while the two winners meet in the championship game at 8:30 p.m.
December features home games against Indiana State (Dec. 3), Florida Gulf Coast (Dec. 17) and Jackson State (Dec. 30).
The Lady Tigers and defending conference champion Tennessee face off in Knoxville, Tenn. on Jan. 2 to begin Southeastern Conference play. The SEC home opener is against Texas A&M on Jan. 9.
LSU’s home finale will be against Tennessee on Feb. 27. LSU closes league play at Alabama on March 2.
LSU SCORES WIN OVER WARHAWKS: LSU scored six goals within the first 49 minutes to cruise to a 6-0 win over the University of Louisiana at Monroe on Tuesday at the LSU Soccer Stadium.
The Tigers (2-0) got goals from Jodi Calloway, Lexi Gibbs and two from Alex Arlitt and Fernanda Pina.
ULM (1-2) registered six shots in the game, including three from Karlea Fehr, one of which was on goal. Kyla Kalinski, Haley Rodriguez and Whitney Tuckfield also fired shots.
ULM goalkeepers Holly Mallinson and Katherine Werther each logged 45 minutes. Mallinson made one save, while Werther blocked six.
