Baton Rouge Gallery hosts movies, music

The haunting silent film “Nosferatu” is the next installment in Baton Rouge Gallery’s Movies & Music on the Lawn series.

The movie will start at 8 p.m. or sundown Friday, whichever comes last, on the gallery’s lawn, 1515 Dalrymple Drive. The film will be complemented by the music of local perforers, England in 1819. The $5 admission includes free popcorn.

Visit museums for free Sunday

The Louisiana Art & Science Museum, 100 River Road S., will have free admission to all its galleries 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Sunday. There is also reduced admission to shows at the adjoining Irene Pennington Planetarium.

The LSU Museum of Art, Shaw Center for the Arts, 100 Lafayette St., also takes part in the Free First Sunday program. The fifth floor gallery will be open 1 p.m.-5 p.m. A docent tour will begin at 2 p.m. and gives the general public a chance to learn more about the museum’s collection and exhibitions.

Races scheduled for Saturday in Baker

Louisiana Bayou Sprinters will be racing at 8 p.m. Saturday at Baton Rouge Raceway, 17700 Plank Road, Baker. Also racing will be crate late models, UMP Limited Modifieds, Pure Stock, Mini Stock and Stingers.

Pet adoption events planned

The Capital Area Animal Welfare Society will host cat adoptions 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at Petsmart, 8660 Airline Highway, and 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the CAAWS Shelter, 6357 Quinn Drive. The society also holds dog adoptions 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at the CAAWS Shelter. For more information, go to caaws.org.

The Companion Animal Alliance of Baton Rouge is running a pet adoptions special through Sept. 8. Dogs more than 40 pounds and adult cats will cost $50. The price includes spay/neuter, microchip and all vaccinations.
